Young entrepreneurs from across the world are in Rwanda to demonstrate their technology at an international forum featuring new drone businesses.
More than 600 people from about 40 countries are taking part in the Africa Drone Forum. The three-day event kicked off on Wednesday in the capital, Kigali.
The World Bank says only 30 percent of Africans use paved roads. Drone technology is expected to overcome the problems of undeveloped infrastructure and promote economic expansion.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame said in a speech, "The African Drone Forum is about turning challenges into opportunities. I wish you fruitful deliberations."
Topics attracting attention at the forum include the use of drones to deliver blood products and vaccines, and spraying insecticide from drones to kill the mosquitoes that spread malaria.
On Thursday, the participants exchanged views on how to use drones to boost farm productivity.
